After almost 25 years, I still believe I have one of the best jobs in the world. Where else might I begin the day listening to a beautiful piece of piano music performed in the grandeur of our atrium? Or find myself discussing the intricacies of international politics with pupils over lunch—pupils who, only moments earlier, might have exploded something fascinating in the science labs, captured a stunning photograph or fed the school’s hamsters?

It is a rare privilege to be part of a diverse and international community where children from across the world come together, united by shared values of kindness, confidence and curiosity. Each day, I witness pupils growing into resilient, empathetic individuals who are inspired to give back to society. Whether it’s igniting a passion for learning, encouraging them to embrace new opportunities or instilling a commitment to their collective and individual futures, our aim is to prepare them not only for academic success but also to lead fulfilling, impactful lives.

Above all, it is profoundly rewarding to see them develop into life-long Brightonians, connected to a global network of remarkable people who continue to inspire and support one another long after their school days are over.

I hope you will visit us and experience for yourself the vibrant, supportive and innovative environment we create each day. You’ll be most warmly welcomed.

Brighton College seeks to impart or provide:

  • a love of learning for its own sake;
  • a foundation of knowledge and body of skills with which to understand and question the world we live in and to prepare us, through an innovative approach to education, for the world we are likely to inhabit in the future;
  • an enthusiasm for the world beyond the classroom – in particular, sport, music and the performing arts;
  • a respect for difference in others and a recognition that the efforts and achievements of every individual in our community are valued equally;
  • an awareness of the needs of others, and a firm belief that – whatever our age – we can make a difference, locally and globally, right now.

In short, we strive to turn out well-educated, tolerant and intellectually curious young adults who are ready to take a full, active and positive role in the life of our country and of our world.

As pupils transition from the Prep School into the Senior School at age 11, they continue their broad general education in Years 7 to 9, delving into subject disciplines with increasing depth and focus.

The Senior School curriculum is designed to inspire lifelong learning, combining the best aspects of traditional and innovative education. Creative and expressive arts are given significant time during these years to develop pupils' creativity, critical thinking skills, and independence, which complement their learning in traditional academic subjects.

 Communication Channels

The Humanities are explored through Brighton’s innovative Story of Our Land course in Years 7 and 8. Using UAE history as a framework, this course integrates historical, geographical, and philosophical themes, preparing pupils for core skill development ahead of GCSE studies. Arabic, Islamic, and Social Studies remain integral to the curriculum, ensuring pupils are deeply connected to the cultural and social context of the UAE.

Additionally, pupils from all year groups have the opportunity to participate in LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art) programs, further enriching their creative and communication skills.

Our broad and varied extra-curricular program complements the academic curriculum, offering pupils opportunities to pursue interests beyond the classroom and develop well-rounded skills.

In Years 10 and 11, pupils prepare for the greater academic rigour of A-levels by studying for between 9 and 11 GCSEs. Core subjects include English literature, English language, mathematics, and the three sciences, alongside four optional subjects chosen from an extensive range of humanities, languages, and creative disciplines.

A "stage not age" approach is employed in some subjects, allowing pupils to progress at a pace suited to their knowledge and skills. This encourages independent learning and fosters a sense of ownership over their education.

This stage provides a strong foundation for future academic and personal growth while encouraging pupils to explore subjects in greater depth and breadth.
